The Pokemon Company and developer Niantic will compensate Pokemon GO players impacted by issues affecting the recent Mewtwo Shadow Raid event. This past May, players were able to battle Shadow Mewtwo for a limited time and obtain various rewards upon completion of the Shadow Raid in Pokemon GO.

Raid events occur regularly in Pokemon GO, and Niantic introduced a new Raid type into the highly popular mobile game in May 2023. Team GO Rocket returned to challenge Pokemon GO players in the very first Shadow Raid featuring all-powerful Shadow Mewtwo on May 27. During the final weekend of May, Pokemon GO players put a stop to Team GO Rocket’s sinister plans by defeating Shadow Mewtwo. If lucky, Shadow Mewtwo will be available to capture with a Poke Ball, and a Shiny variant may randomly appear in Shadow Raid battles. Players could earn additional Rare Candy XL rewards, but various bugs prevented some from obtaining their rewards after successfully completing the Shadow Raid battle.

The official Niantic Support Twitter account released a statement to address the issues regarding the Mewtwo Shadow Raid event in Pokemon GO. Players will earn 10, 20, or 30 Rare Candy XL by the end of this week, and the amount will be based on how many Mewtwo Shadow Raids were completed by the player. However, specific metrics for the required amount of Mewtwo Shadow Raids for Rare Candy XL rewards were not revealed by Niantic.
